As we all know MGF/TFs are very reliable but sometimes things do go wrong and this award goes to someone or something for whom it really could have been a better day!
The award itself is made out of Tim Morris’s blown head gasket, he was Chairman of the Register at the time in 2007 and instigated the award.
2009 - Derek Varney
For locking his keys in the boot at no less than three shows during 2008!
2010 - Dave Kerley
For breaking his steptronic gearbox the night before the Abingdon to Geneva Re-Run
2011 - Simon & Julie Davies
For having a Trophy 160, 85th Anniversary TF and a Citroen crushed by a crashing MPV that also destroyed the front of their house – then having the repaired 85th hit from behind later the same year.
2012 - Andrew Watson
Having brought a dilapidated MGF and restored it into a modified individual car promptly crashed into a tree. The car was later rebuilt.
2013 - Stuart Blease
Broke down in his TF on the European Event of the Year to be trailered home.
2014 - John & Lyn Ponting
Their TF was written off on the Luxemburg ring road. The replacement LE500 was also involved in an accident with an MPV!
2015 - Lin & Pete Opie
Lin for breaking her foot on the MGFIM and Pete for having a car run into his stationary MGF on the way back!
2016 - Michael & Marion Murkin
Michael & Marion Murkin were driving back from the German Neiderrhein Tour and were crossing Belgium with only a short distance to go to the ferry and unfortunately their TF was hit by a car coming towards them. Nearly every panel on the car was damaged and the car was a complete right off. A sad way for a car to end its life but it looked after its occupants really well
2017 - Not Awarded
2018 - Alan Bradley
Not car related but for breaking his foot preventing him from attending the French National event
2019 - Longbridge
Unusually the award went to a place – Longbridge which finally closed in a haze of bulldozer dust. A sad end.
2020 - Everyone!
Not specifically awarded this year due to the Covid Pandemic – but it was a pretty bad year for everyone really!
2021 - Phil Rigby
For breaking his ankle by falling off his bike just prior to an MGF race.
2022 - Nigel May
For breaking down in his MGF en route to a natter and waiting in a “dubious” layby for 3 hours until recovery came.
2023 - Ian Wright
